I want to buy binoculars for star gazing and to see Mars at the end of August. What is the cheapest brand, yet good quality that I can get?

I bought a night vision binocular (20X50). It is one of those ordinary binoculars that doesn't require batteries. I tested it out last night, and it quite didn't rise to my expectations. So how can I improve my night vision and the binoculars?

Say with a 30x80mm or 50x100 lens binoculars and a very steady hand is it possible to see any kind of detail of the space station or satelites as they pass overhead?
